STAGE II
The outline of the effigy – that is creation of the contour of people to
be presented on the icon. Contour which is at the beginning is not perfect.
Everything is still in the process of making and any correction can be made
later.
STAGE III
The cloth is covered with several layers in short periods of time. It
lasts long because before the next layer is put on the cloth, the former one
must be thoroughly dried, so that there were no gaps in the icon. Then, the
icon is cut. Nowadays the grinder is used to cut the icons whereas in the
past pumice, wool and sand were used. Sometimes it is necessary to make a
small curve in the plank (so called ‘kowczego’), in which the effigy appears.
STAGE IV
Preparation to gilding and gilding itself – after an hour and a half
from the moment when the effigy was drawn, the icon can be gilded. The parts
which are to be gilded are painted with so called ‘pulment’, that is glue
which contains red clay.
STAGE V -
Details are worked on. |
